Who Am I?

I'm Jack Dorland, a current Cornell University student with a passion for helping students achieve academic excellence. My academic credentials include the National Merit Commended Scholar recognition, AP Scholar with Distinction (twice), graduation in the top 5% of my class, a 99th percentile SAT score, and a perfect record of twelve AP scores of '5.' I also have 4 years of peer (volunteer) tutoring service.

I believe that every student has the potential to succeed when given the right support and personalized strategies. My approach focuses on true concept mastery rather than memorization, developing effective study techniques tailored to each student's learning style, and building the confidence and skills needed for long-term academic success.

In essence, I've been through it. I've been through the crazy and confusing process of applying to the top schools (in both the U.S. and abroad). I spent countless nights writing, rewriting, perfecting and researching everything that goes into making a great application.

Why This Website Looks This Way

You'll notice this website is deliberately simple - black text, white background, no flashy graphics or distractions. That's intentional. Learning is hard work, and real academic achievement doesn't come from shortcuts or gimmicks. It comes from focused effort, clear thinking, and honest assessment of what you know and what you need to improve.

I believe in substance over style. When you're struggling with calculus or preparing for the SAT, what matters isn't fancy presentations; it's clear explanations, proven strategies, and the discipline to practice until you master the material. My approach to tutoring mirrors this website: straightforward, no-nonsense, and focused on what actually works.
